Upanishad Stories Study

Sunday, December 1—Friday, December 6, 2013
Swami Dharmananda •

Learn Self knowledge through the Upanishadic stories, enacted by staff at the Sivananda Yoga Farm, following the script in the book" Upanishad drama " of Master Sivananda. The central teaching of the Upanishads is about the way in which we can pass from mortality to immortality, from fear to fearlessness. We will learn from the dialogue between Nachiketas and Lord Yama in Kathopanishad as well as the dialogue between sage Yajnavalkya and his wife Maitreyi in Brihadaranyaka Upanishad.

Katha Upanishad

During this 5-day course we will read through the mystical text of the Katha Upanishad, the dialogue between young Nachiketa and Yama, the Lord of Death. Nachiketa, the spiritual seeker, descends to the deepest realms of his being to find the meaning of life, taking on as his Teacher, death itself.

Death, the great instructor, reveals the secret to living an essential and fulfilling life, free of fear and regret, a life immersed in Spirit and the heart’s inner knowledge.

We will have daily readings with commentary.
